exhausted...

sorry i haven't been posting much lately...between my work and the kids i have been pretty busy and pretty tired at night.

i wanted to give you all an update on tim's cousin that was diagnosed with colon cancer recently...i was in to see him after work today and he is doing very well. he had surgery to remove the cancer last friday and has been recovering quite well. hopefully he will be able to get home tomorrow or thursday. over the years he has had his share of the hershey med center and he is itching to get home.

thanks for all your prayers. we are not quite sure what type of follow-up he is going to need with regards to the pathology report...so keep praying.

kelsey is leaving first thing in the morning for mt union, pa

it is CREATION time again...lots of loud christian music and lots of hot and sweating teenagers. she is going with a youth group from one of her friends church and she is so excited...5 days living in a tent with portable bathrooms and limited water supply for showers...as tempting as that may sound...i think i will sit this one out.

ashley has this awesome babysitting job working for her concussion doctor...tomorrow she is getting paid to spend the day at hersheypark...rough life these kids have.

megan is good...just finished up 2 college classes at PSU and is back to working for the midtown scholar bookstore again this summer. she is actually over visiting with craig right now...i am proud of all my kids. as sick of the med center as they must be...they ALL have made the effort and taken the time (on their own) to go and spend some time with craig after his surgery.

well...thats about it for now.

big premier tonight...my 17 year olds are going to the 12:01am showing of that new twilight movie that comes out. i am not much into the vampire stuff but they are hooked on this series. these are the stand-up poster guys that we have throughout our house (now those things i have had a blast with...i hide them behind chairs and behind curtains...freaks out the teens...fun times)

now that it is over...

...i guess i can talk about it now.

another fathers day has come and gone.

kelsey had a field hockey tournament in maryland this weekend so we decided it would be a nice weekend to get out of town so we got a hotel for two nights and off we went.

friday night was awesome and saturday was better than awesome...kelsey had a wonderful tournament and meg and a friend drove down to watch a game or two. we then went shopping at our new favorite mall...towson town center (or something like that). amazing 4 story mall with a cheesecake factory attached to the mall. it doesn't get much better than that.

then came sunday...i am not sure exactly what happened but i can say that it got kinda ugly. most of the day was fine but by the time i got home i was tired and cranky and really feeling down in the dumps. i had the usual thoughts...i am tired, the laundry needs done, the house is a mess, i have to work in the morning, the lawn needs mowed...and it was fathers day.

now is where it gets a little foggy BUT i can say that i was NOT in the right frame of mind to be touching the weed whacker. i had to replace the cord about 6-7 times and once went inside to see if we still had cable. it was just me with a bad attitude and the wicked weed whacker going head to head...not a good combination. nothing seems to be permanently damaged and i only needed 4-5 bandaids by the time i was done but i did feel a little better afterwards.

what was my problem? i keep trying to figure that out and i think i might know.

do i miss tim? absolutely

do the kids miss tim? absolutely...but it wasn't about missing him this time.

this time it was more about "filling in for tim". maybe it was all the dads with the families at the mall or all the advertisements or maybe the cards that i couldn't bring myself to read...i still have this great dad that i know that i can call ANYTIME with a question or a problem or whatever. i was feeling the pressure of being the mom (and the dad) for my kids as they are reaching a point in their lives where so many important decisions need to be made. i miss the man that i could bounce stuff off of all the time and get some feedback from. for over 17 years we co-piloted this parenting gig and now it is so hard to do it alone. we used to pray together every day and part of that prayer was that together we would make the right choices with regards to our girls.

so...although most the bandaids were being use to stop blood flow i still can use a pretty big one on that big gaping hole in my heart. when does this start getting easier?
don't stop praying.

hey mommy...can you come to mcdonalds???

ok...here is the setting

i am at home at 10:30pm

just me and meg sitting at the computer trying to decide if we are going on a beach vacation this year...and i get a "twin" call.

so...why would a 17 year old need her mother to come at mcdonalds at 10:30pm...yep you guessed it...the picture gave it away i guess.

she was in that "place" that they put people who come at odd hours and they feel guilty giving you that OLD food that has been just laying there. you all have been there.....could you just pull around to the front and wait...so her and her friend we just sitting there in the car waiting for the HOT french fries and chicken nuggets listening to some sort of music i am sure and they look up and...

the debate started.

he is going to hit us

no...he sees us

no...he is going to hit us

no...he sees us

BEEP BEEP

he hit us...

anyone out there involved in their first accident when they were only 17 years old? it is kinda scary...insurance cards and damage reports and do you call the police or not call the police...

my child did what any normal 17 year old would do...CALL MOM!!!

so off i went to the mcdonalds down the street to see what kind of damage we are talking...the car that hit our car was from out of town just passing through (poor people probably just pulled in to use the restroom)

the gentleman...we liked him right from the start...he was wearing a blue tie-die PSU t-shirt.

the lady...well, she is not that important

so megan and i get out of the car and go over to look at the damage and ...i can't really see anything. (yes...i know i am getting old but i even had my glasses)

the guy came over and showed me where the bumper was a little loose...probably broke a clip or something and the paint was perhaps a bit cracked...but those cracks kinda blended in really nice with all the other cracks and the missing hubcap.

so...we cut the guy a break and sent him on his way...i figure my brothers can probably get me the missing clip and if not i always thought those duct taped cars were kinda cool.

as you can see...nothing new at the dewalt residence...same old same old...
hope all is good out in cyberland

hot one...

wow...thank goodness for air conditioning.

just a little update on craig...all the scans came back really good (considering) and it looks like the cancer is isolated to that one section of the colon. he is scheduled for surgery this friday...make a mental note and say a prayer or two.

all is good around here...school is out for the twins and ashley picked up a babysitting job for the summer. kelsey is unemployed but not really going to be around all that much this summer. she is my camp kid...heading off to creation, then a collegiate field hockey camp (in NJ) then a high school field hockey camp (held at PSU). busy kid.

megan is home for the summer, working and taking classes at PSU-Harrisburg.

me? i am loving all the activity around here.

enjoy the rest of the weekend...stay cool

risking life and limb...

...there are friends and then there are true friends

once upon a time there was a woman

this woman disliked parties

this woman really disliked surprises

this woman outright hated surprise parties

this woman had 3 daughters (had being the operative word here)

one of the daughters decided that she wanted to do something special for her mother's b-day

this daughter called one of her mom's friend's

this friend said that she wasn't sure this was such a great idea (and then went and took a nitro)

but my daughter somehow convinced my x-friend to help her throw this surprise party

i believe her words were something along the line of...but if you come it will ok...she really likes you. (sucker)

so...PETRIFIED and risking life and limb plans were finalized and to my utter amazement...they pulled off a surprise b-day party for me "at my house" on sunday evening.

YES...i hate surprises

YES...i hate to be the center of attention

but REALLY...who could stay mad at a group of friends who would risk everything to help out one of my kids.

now...the kids on the other hand...we are going to have one very long chat tonight!!!!

it was not my "thing" but we did really have a wonderful time and the gifts...well...lets just say they were very unique. (keep in mind i am on a low carb diet)

***one package contained 4-STEAKS

***one package contained lemon garlic CHICKEN (wrapped in M&M paper and placed in a day spa box)

***one package contained a GIANT gift card with a note attached that it was for lean and green foods only and would self-explode if i attempted to buy sweets

***one package contained LOTTERY TCKS which we won $18 to go buy more meat i guess

***one package contained a non-edible party game

***one was an invite to go out for dinner (at a non-pasta place i'm sure)

talk about true friends...but don't think they were SAINTS

***2 homemade strawberry pies

***1 huge b-day cake

***shoefly pie (that was ours)

***homemade potato salad (thanks laura...it was wonderful)

***chips, cheese puffs, veggies and dip, lotsa fruit

***burgers and dogs (cooked by the neighbor and megan)

it was really a nice evening...but this had better be it for the surprises.

no more ms nice guy.
